Procrastinating again

I’ve got to that point in the unit where with only 2 weeks before I am due to submit work, I have loads to do and every excuse under the sun not to do it.  I have been really busy, true but the tutor is unlikely to be impressed with that!  The project I am studying just now is ‘the time of day’ which requires me to look at what happens when the sun moves through the day.  What sun, we haven’t seen any in weeks!

I know from my own tutoring days that it’s easy to lose motivation when working on your own and I guess I need to take some of my own advice:

  • Join in the on-line communities, get the mutual support of other participants as this will help to re-motivate you
  • If you can’t do the next section for whatever reason, move on to the one after that, you can come back to it later when the circumstances are more favourable
  • Talk to your tutor, he or she can’t help if they don’t know there is a problem
  • Eat your frog – take that first step, make that first dent in the work, that will help to get you going again

Maybe I’m just a better tutor than I  am a student!

The other thing I know I haven’t done enough of for this topic is reading.  When I was studying the elements of design and colour, it was relatively easy to find photographers who were trail blazers in that particular area, such as Rodchenko and Haas. When it comes to light though, each kind of photography seems to have different lighting requirements and consequently it seems that everybody and nobody specialises in lighting.

Moan over, now down to some work!

About Anne Bryson

I live in Gloucestershire with my husband Iain and West Highland Terrier, Isla. I enjoy golf, photography and my grandchildren, not necessarily in that order! Having completed a 10 week digital photography course with the Open University in 2010, I decided I wanted to take my photography further and enrolled for the Open College of the Arts BA (Hons) starting with 'The Art of Photography' which I enjoyed so much that I went gone on to do Digital Photographic Practice and People and Place. In April 2016 I enrolled on my fourth OCA photography course, Documentary. This blog is my Learning Log for this course.
