Still life

I seem to have a love hate relationship with still life!  Peter, my tutor, suggested that I look at the work of still life painters to get some ideas and also glossy magazines but I’m still struggling a bit.  I have been looking at Heather Angel’s galleries which are fabulous.  She is mainly a wildlife photographer but there are some stunning flower photographs as well which I will explore further later.  I noticed on her web site that her son Giles is also an award-winning photographer and when I looked further I found that his focus is mainly still life:  [accessed June 2011].  Giles has an impressive list of clients and most of his work is for commercial purposes and although I can appreciate  his technical expertise, use of colour and clean lines I have to say that many of the images do little for me.  Maybe if I understood the purpose behind them and what the client wanted, I would be able to engage with the pictures more.  I will persevere though, maybe it will come!

About Anne Bryson

I live in Gloucestershire with my husband Iain and West Highland Terrier, Isla. I enjoy golf, photography and my grandchildren, not necessarily in that order! Having completed a 10 week digital photography course with the Open University in 2010, I decided I wanted to take my photography further and enrolled for the Open College of the Arts BA (Hons) starting with 'The Art of Photography' which I enjoyed so much that I went gone on to do Digital Photographic Practice and People and Place. In April 2016 I enrolled on my fourth OCA photography course, Documentary. This blog is my Learning Log for this course.
